Satisfying increasing wood demand

In a world challenged by growing population, diminishing resources and climate change, global wood demand is projected to increase three-fold to 10 billion m3 per annum by 2050.

Where will this wood come from?

Without degrading natural forests irreparably, 250 million hectares of new plantation forests would need to be added to the current 264 million hectares.

Producing more wood from less land is imperative. Scientific and technological innovation is therefore a pre-requisite for sustainably intensifying wood production. To produce more from less, multiple technologies need to be considered, including Biotechnology, which is a key tool for sustainable forestry practices.

How can FuturaGene help?

Our technologies improve plantation productivity by enhancing and protecting yield, optimizing resource-use efficiency.
